Layering
your closet! |
 |
| |
Best way
to increase closet storage space is to use the principle of
"layering". By creating a layer of shelves one on
top of another, or by stacking different levels one on top the
other, you can double and even triple the storage space in closets.
|
 |
Add storage shelves where you didnt even think it was
possible! |
 |
| |
For more storage space
in your closet, an additional shelf can be installed between
the shelf that is at eye-level and the ceiling. This can be
used to store items that are not used as frequently.
|
 |
Seasonize
your closet.. |
 |
| |
Arrange items according
to the season. Move items of the current season at the front
of the closet. And past season to the back. Not only will you
find what you're looking for much faster, your closet will look
a lot neater! |
 |
So
many closets.. So little time.. |
 |
| |
Planning all your storage
spaces at once can save you time, money and headaches. If you
have a tight budget, you can plan how much money your project
will require for each area (including accessories) and make
trade-offs if necessary. You'll make fewer trips to the store
and can make the best use of your contractor's time or your
own time, if you're doing it yourself. |
 |
Tools you'll need to do it your self |
 |
| |
If you're installing
closet shelves yourself, you'll need to have the following tools:
level, measuring tape, pencil, hammer, drill, Philips screw
driver, bolt cutter (for cutting shelves) and hacksaw (for cutting
closet rods). |
 |
Tips
for maximizing your storage |
 |
| |
- Hang clothes by type and length to maximize space.
- Use "double decker" (one rod above the other)
for separates to get twice as much in the same amount of
space.
- Adjustable closet systems allow you to place the rods
and shelves so there's no wasted space.
- Shoe cubicles can be used to maximize shoe storage.
- Review your wardrobe regularly to weed out items that
shouldn't be taking up valuable space in the closet. Ask
yourself: Will I ever really wear it again? Do this every
season. Be ruthless with yourself. Try to store off season
clothes somewhere else, if possible. Using your luggage
is a good idea. It takes up room anyway, so why not put
it to good use?
- Use hooks to store robes and night gowns.
- Get rid of empty hangers; they waste valuable space.
Dont throw them away, you'll need them at some point.
- Use the proper hangers. Open-end slack hangers and skirt
hangers with clips use less space lengthwise.
- Store shoes that you dont wear often high up on a shelf
in plastic shoe boxes with labels.
- Label boxes with contents listed or attach a photo of
what's inside.
- Use the back of your door for hooks or racks to store
accessories.
